Branch 9 carriers were treated to a sampling of ethnic foods at the January Stewards meeting. Organized by Cathy Burton and Ella Brodziak, the All InclusiveMembership committee celebrates the diverse cultures of Branch 9 members. Meeting with Branch Officers, it was decided to have a competition cook-off. The winning chef would receive a $100 gift card to Jax’s Restaurant, plus an Award plaque and bragging rights until the next competition.Entrants submitted foods from SE Asia, Europe, Scandanavia, plus Soul Foods and Vegetarian fare. Each cultural food had it’s own unique color, presentation, and spiceness. Waraphak Vang, unquestionably had the most beautifully presentable layout of SE Asian food. Because of her efforts and food preparation, she also received the A.I.M. Committee’s First Choice Award. Letter carriers were treated to a variety of mouth-watering foods. Chris Williams Soulfood sampler of bbq pork ribs was judged the “Best” by the four mystery judges and took home First Prize. Sampling such diverse food allowed carriers to taste dishes that they might otherwise hesitate to order in a restaurant. Here’s hoping that with the next “Cook-off” more carriers will share their ethnic and cultural heritage, which can only strengthen the bonds of Branch Nine by making it truly an ALL INCLUSIVE MEMBERSHIP.
